 Awake, O harp and lyre!  I will awake the dawn.
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.”  (Ps. 57:7b-9)

Music

Music is an integral part of worship at Yorkfield and one of the ways we “give thanks to the Lord.”  Both children & adults participate across a broad spectrum of musical styles:

Children – Primary school children sing in worship at least twice/yr and also are introduced to chimes and share as a bell choir in worship as well.  At Christmas even our preschoolers sing in the Christmas pageant.

Middle School – These early teens sing, play bells and share their dramatic abilities in worship every year.

Sr. Highs – Several of our Sr. Highs participate in Adult Choir, Handbells & the Praise Band.  In addition, each year on “Youth Sunday” the Sr. Highs cover all aspects of worship, including all music for the day.

Chancel Choir – The choir sings at the 9:00am service 3 of 4 Sundays every month September – May.  Their repertoire includes gospel, classical and new creations.  Rehearsal is Monday evenings at 7:45pm with Sunday morning warm-up at 8:15am.  Dylan Rehm directs the Choir and loves to make a space for everyone who wants to sing regardless of experience!  You can reach Dylan at This email address is being protected from spambots. Handbell Choir – The Joyful Noise Ringers play at the 9:00am service every 3rd Sunday of the month, September – May, and rehearse at 6:30pm Monday evenings.  They are always looking for someone just a little “dingy” to join their merry band.  They play everything from arrangements of favorite hymns to Coldplay’s “Clocks,” which was everyone’s favorite piece at this year’s All Music Sunday service.  For more information on how you can make a joyful noise contact Dylan at This email address is being protected from spambots. Praise Band – “Messenger” praise band leads worship at our 11:15am service September – May, and is also present in every summer service as well.  The band consists of several singers, drums, percussion, guitars, bass & keyboard, ranging in age from 15-71.  (What other band in the world can say that?)  But they are always eager to add new musicians, especially so that current musicians can rotate in and out of worship.  The Band rehearses at 4:00pm on Saturdays during the school year, plays five songs in worship weekly, most of which are contemporary songs you are likely to hear on your favorite Christian radio station.  For more information on how you can be involved contact Band Leader, Leslie Menconi at This email address is being protected from spambots. Audio/Visual – All of the announcements in worship have accompanying PowerPoint slides, along with sermon feature slides & occasional youtube videos.  In addition all the Band’s song lyrics are projected on screens in the sanctuary.   This means we are always in need of folk to create slides and/or help run the visual side of worship.

Sound – We need people to mix sound in every worship service, and occasionally pop in MP3s, CD tracks, etc.  We also record all of our services.

Visual Arts

Yorkfield is blessed to have a small cadre of artists who have immensely increased our ability to visually worship God.  Our artists have created stained-glass installations, carved a celtic cross and reliefs of the four evangelists that grace our sanctuary, made banners, quilted paraments and stoles for our worship leaders and done many drawings and paintings for various worship themes and sermon series.   If you have artistic gifts we would love to have you be a part of this creative ministry.

Drama

As often as we can we try to enliven worship with the dramatic arts.  These are usually short plays/skits written & performed by Yorkfield members, several who have roots in regional theater in the area.  Plays can be humorous or serious, but come at the scripture of the day in a way that helps the congregation enter into the gospel story from a fresh perspective.
